John Sheean Passes Away

Well Known Resident of Galena Dies at Home on East Side Wednesday, July 12th

John Sheean died at his house in this city on Wednesday, July 12th, 1916, at four-thirty p.m. and will be buried on Friday morning at nine o'clock. Services will be held at St. Michael's Catholic church at nine o'clock and the deceased will be buried in the East side cemetery.

John Sheean was born on March 20, 1837, in Boston, Mass., and came to Jo Daviess County, Illinois, with his parents while an infant, and remained on the homestead in Guilford until he moved to Galena in 1874; he was elected assessor of the town of Guilford when twenty-two years old; he went to Montana in 1864, and remained there several years, and while there was elected assessor for Lewis and Clark counties, two successive terms. He then returned to his home in Guilford and remained there until 1874, when he was elected sheriff of Jo Daviess County and served as such until 1876; he served three years as city marshal of the city of Galena.10 years as supervisor from East Galena township, and after that entered into partnership with T. J. Annetts in the stock business and continued in that business up to the time of his death, Mr. Annetts having died about a year ago. Mr. Sheean was married to Julia Perrault in 1882, and is survived by her and his two children as follows: John O. Sheean and Mrs. Bertha MacCulloch, both of whom reside in the city of Galena.
