Prudence Ann Mordick

Prudence Ann Mordick was born in North Carolina Aug. 5, 1832, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Reed Phelps, Stockton, June 4, 1914, ages 81 yrs., 9 months and 29 days.

When one year old deceased moved with her parents to Indiana. A few years later they came to Illinois locating five miles west of Stockton. One Aug. 7, 1856, she was married to Hamilton D. Crain. To this union 3 children were born, one child dying in infancy. In 1862 Mr. Crain enlisted in the Union army and in 1863 was wounded and died.

In September, 1868, she was married to Turpin Burton, one child being born to them. Mr. Burton passed away 8 years ago and since then Mrs. Burton has lived with her children: Mrs. Helen Phelps, Stockton, Henry Crain, Warren and Mrs. Ida Millard, Hampton, Iowa. She was a true christian, one who loved her church. She was true to her God and has gone to be at rest with him.

The funeral was held from the Evangelical church, Stockton, conducted by Rev. L.A. Miller, pastor of the Baptist church of Warren, assisted by Rev. Fulcomer of Stockton. Interment was made in the Townsend cemetery.
