Mrs. Mary Long Calvert

An old resident in the person of Mrs. Mary Long Calvert passed from earth on the afternoon of Monday, July 15th.

Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday conducted by her pastor, J. C. Warnock. A large number of people were present and followed the precious dust to its last resting place in the Log Church cemetery.

The following will be of interest to the relatives and many friends: Mary Long was born in County Monohan, Ireland, Nov. 15, 1825. She came to New York when sixteen years old and resided there until 1847, when on Oct. 11th she was married to John Calvert at North Argyle and a few days later they started for Illinois and settled in Jo Daviess Co., where she lived up to the time of her death.

To this union were born nine children. Her husband and seven children preceded her to the other world, six children dying in infancy and the seventh, Mrs. Robt. Dick, died three years ago. The two remaining children are Ravilla Chapman and John D. Calvert both of Hanover, one sister, Mrs. Rachel Robison of Chicago and a sister-in-law Mrs. John Sherrill of Galena also mourn her loss.

In 1848 Mrs. Calvert united with the United Presbyterian Church in which she remained a faithful member until she fell asleep.
