Vera C. Knautz Millhouse

Galena, Ill-Vera C. Millhouse, 87 of Galena, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, ManorCare Health Services, Dubuque.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. There will be no visitation. The Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Nov. 10, 1913, in Chicago, daughter of William and Marie (Henning) Knautz. She married George Millhouse on April 10, 1940, in Dubuque; he died March 16, 1975.

She attended Beloit College and then the Library Teaching Program at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

She was involved in the Galena Public Library and friend of the Galena Library and was the librarian for many years.

She served on the board of directors of the former Galena Glove and Mitten Factory in Dubuque. She was past president of the Galena Historical Society and involved in several other civic programs in Galena. She was a supporter of local land and wildlife preservation. She was supportive of her family and community and will be sadly missed by her family and close friends.

Surviving are a son, William (Jill) Millhouse, of Galena; and two grandchildren, Philip and Sara, both of Galena.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, David.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Galena Library, Galena Historical Society and Hospice of Dubuque.
