RICHARD H HELLER PASSES AWAY TUESDAY AFTERNOON

Richard H. Heller, a son of the late William and Anna Heller, passed away at his home, 219 Park Ave., on May 22, 1945, at 5:30pm.

He was born in Rich {sic Rice} Township on February 5, 1873, and spent his entire life in and around Galena. On March 30, 1897, he was united in marriage with Ada Wilkinson. He is survived by his wife, together with the following children; Mrs. Raymond Keleher, Mrs. Edmund Perleth, Mrs. Raymond Creighton, all of this city and Floyd W. Heller of Waterloo, Iowa; four grandchildren, Doris Ann and Dickie Heller, and Beverly and John Creighton. Also three brothers, William, Henry and Fred J. Heller and two sisters, Mrs. John J. Bucher and Mrs. William Beadle.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, LeRoy, and a daughter, Bertha.

He was a member of the Methodist church and the Wildey Lodge No. 5, I.O.O.F. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, May 25, at 2:30pm from the Nash Funeral Chapel. Burial will be made in Greenwood cemetery. After seven o'clock this evening friends may call at the chapel to pay their respects.

Mrs. Ada O. Heller, 81, died at 7am Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Perlith, 903 Third Street, where she had been living. A lengthy illness preceded her death.

Services will be conducted Friday at 3pm in the Nash Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond White of the Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Born in Scales Mound on March 27, 1879, she was the daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth Wilkinson. Her marriage to Richard Heller took place on March 31, 1897 in the Methodist Church in Galena.

Mrs. Heller was a member of the Methodist church and of its Ladies Aid Society.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ray (Ruby) Keleher, Mrs. Ed (Lucille) Perlith, and Mrs. Ray (Ida Mae) Creighton, all of Galena; one son, Floyd, of Waterloo, Ia., five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, one son, Roy, one daughter, Bertha, three sisters and two brothers.

SCALES MOUND, Ill. - Ruby V. Keleher, 95, of Scales Mound, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Galena-Stauss Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, with the Rev. Brian Channel officiating. Burial will be in Scales Mound Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Keleher was a homemaker. She and her husband farmed in the Galena and Scales Mound area until their retirement.

Ruby was born on Jan. 30, 1902, in Guilford Township of Jo Daviess County, daughter of Richard and Ada (Wilkinson) Heller. She married Raymond Keleher on June 25, 1925, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Galena; he preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1994.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Scales Mound.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Bertha, in infancy, Lucille Perleth and Ida Mae Creighton; and two brothers, Floyd and LeRoy Heller.

Services will be at 11am Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Scales Mound, with burial in the Scales Mound Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8pm Tuesday at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where there will be a scripture wake service at 7pm. Mr. Keleher farmed for many years in the Galena and Scales Mound area until his retirement. He was born on Feb. 7, 1898, in Guilford Township of Jo Daviess County, son of John and Mary (Foley) Keleher. He married Ruby Heller on June 25, 1925, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Galena. The Rev. Shanahan officiated. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Scales Mound. Surviving are his wife, Ruby; a brother, Edward Keleher of Rock Falls; a sister, Marie Nolan of Clinto, Iowa; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Frances and Joseph; and a sister, Ceilia Ware.


Ada Lucille Heller-Perleth

Lucille H. Perleth

Services were held for Lucille H. Perleth, 81, a former employee at the First National Bank, who died Tuesday, April 23, 1985 at the Galena-Strauss Hospital.

Mrs. Perleth, of 904 4th Street, was a secretary at the bank from July 1953 until her retirement in March 1975.

She was married to Edmund Perleth, who survives. Mrs. Perleth was born Feb. 29, 1904 at Rice Township, the daughter of Richard and Ada Wilkinson Heller. She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and her parents.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ray (Ruby) Keleher of Scales Mound and Mrs. Raymond (Ida Mae) Creighton of Galena, and nieces and nephews.

Services were at 11am Friday, April 26 at the Steinke Funeral Home with the Rev. Bonnie Ogie, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery.

The Steinke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edmund L. Perleth

Galena, Ill. -- Edmund L. Perleth, 86, of 904 -- 4th St. in Galena died Thursday at Galena-Strauss Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30am Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Galena, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-9pm Friday at the Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena, where the scripture wake service will be at 7:30pm Friday.

Mr. Perleth was manager of the A&P Store in Galena for 40 years before his retirement in 1965.

His wife, the former Lucille Heller, died April 23, 1985.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Bernice) Taylor and Mrs. Marie Metz, both of Dubuque.

Mrs. Creighton worked at Burgess Battery Factory, Galena, for many years.

She was born on May 13, 1908, in Rice Township, rural Galena, daughter of Richard and Ada (Wilkerson) Heller. She died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

She married Raymond (Bud) Creighton, on May 2, 1936, at St. John's Catholic Church, Hanover; he died Jan. 6, 1992.

She spent all her life in this area. She was a homemaker and member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Galena, and its altar and rosary society. She also was a member of the Galena Hospital Auxiliary and Galena Historical Society.

Surviving are a son, Jack (Carolyn) Creighton, of Hazel Green, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (MaryKay) Long, of Galena, and Mrs. Peter (Beverly) Wossner, of Granada Hills, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson; and a sister, Mrs. Ruby Keleher, formerly of Scales Mound.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, LeRoy and Floyd Heller; an infant sister, Bertha Heller; and a sister, Lucille Perleth.

An Ida Mae Creighton Memorial Fund has been established.

Galena, Ill. -- Raymond J. "Bud" Creighton, 79, of 1012 Ridge St., Galena, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1992, at Galena-Strauss Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30am Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Galena. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Galena.

Friends may call from 2 to 9pm Thursday at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where the scripture wake service will be said at 8pm.

Mr. Creighton was a locomotive engineer at Savanna Army Depot from 1941-1973. He was caretaker at St. Michael's Cemetery for a number of years and worked at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena.

He was born on April 5, 1912, in Rice Township, rural Galena, son of James and Clara (Biren) Creighton. He married Ida Mae Heller on May 2, 1936, at St. John's Catholic Church, Hanover; she survives.

He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern theaters from Dec. 15, 1943, to Dec. 16, 1945. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Galena, where he was a former trustee and usher, and a member of the cemetery board. He was a member of the Galena Elks Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Also surviving are a son, Jack, of Hazel Green; two daughters, Mrs. Peter (Beverly) Wossner of Granada Hills, Calif., and Mrs. Roger (Mary Kay) Long, of Galena; 10 grandchildren; and five sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Heller and Mrs. Dean (Doreen) Moroney, both of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Rosemary Kirk and Mrs. Flavia Krohmer, both of Rockford, and Mrs. William (Thelma) Breitbach of Madison, Wis.

A Raymond J. Creighton Memorial Fund has been established.

Floyd Heller dies

Floyd W. Heller, 68, formerly of Galena, died at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo on June 3.

He was associated with the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, during which time he spent many years in foreign countries in their interests.

He is survived by his widow, the former Beatrice Creighton, one daughter Mrs. Raymond (Doris) Ruane, four grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Raymond Keleher of Scales Mound, Mrs. Edmund Perleth and Mrs. Raymond Creighton of Galena. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard J. Heller, Dec. 11, 1978.

Funeral services were held in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo of which he was a member Tuesday June 5 at 12 noon. Interment was made in Memorial Gardens, Waterloo.

She was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Galena, Ill., daughter of Floyd and Beatrice Creighton Heller. She married Raymond A. Ruane on July 14, 1956, in Waterloo. Mrs. Ruane was employed by Sears and later by Seiferts. Survived by: her husband; a son, a daughter, and two grandsons. Preceded in death by: a brother, Richard Heller. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
