HEITKAMP posted by Rachel M Downing on Monday, March 13, 2000

My G Grandfather Bernard J HEITKAMP, mentioned in my other queries, was of the firm "HEITKAMP Brothers" who owned some type of store and grain business according to his marriage announcement in 1899. Also, according to my mother another one of the HEITKAMPS owned some type of glovery, or glove and mitten manufacturing business in Galena, Jo Davies County in the early 1900s. My grandmother had occasionally worked there as a young girl. I would be very interested to learn more about either of these Heitkamp businesses. Rachel..

I have the same information about Eliza JOHNSON and James SPRATT in Galena, Jo Daviess, IL and from the same source, as your first response in August. But what do you have about Eliza? Would Thomas EVANS be her mother's brother, therefore her mother's maiden name was EVANS? Also, I have a notation with a question mark that her name was Eliza HUGHES JOHNSON.

BOSTWICK, HARLE, HARNEY, HEITKAMP, HILGESS, HUBACHER, KIRK, KLINDTHWORTH, LESLIE, MORRIS, RIPPIN posted by Rachel M Downing on Wednesday, March 29, 2000

I just received the Civil War Pension records for my G G Grandfather Nicholaus HUBACHER Sr. These records provide the following information: date and place of birth, physical description, maiden name of wife, date-place and reverend of marriage, attorneys name, war service information, full names and birth dates for all of his children and sworn statements of two Galena friends. I had originally gotten his company and regiment information from burrial listings on the Jo Davies County web page. For ten dollars I obtained the records from the national archives. So in the interest of locating connections, here is some of what I found. Nicholaus HUBACHER Sr was born Feb. 8, 1845 Canton Berne Switzerland. By age twenty he lived in Galena, Jo Davies County Illinois. He was enlisted with Company A, 15th Illinois Volunteer Infantry February 24, 1865 at age twenty. Mustered out September 16, 1865. Nicholaus married Mary Ann HILGESS November 17th 1869 at the Lutheran Church, Rev. John KLINDTHWORTH. The documents state that there are records of the marriage at the church and at the county courthouse. Their children were: William John HUBACHER born June 28, 1870 Mary Elizabeth HUBACHER KIRK born August 4, 1872(My G Grandmother) Nicholaus M HUBACHER (Jr) born Nov. 23 1874 Catherine M HUBACHER HARNEY born May 19, 1877 Lucy R HUBACHER born August 16, 1879 Delia Theresa HUBACHER HARLE born Oct. 21, 1881 George Louis HUBACHER born December 24, 1883 Frank H. HUBACHER born July 17, 1886 Laura S. HUBACHER born October 17, 1891 (another page says 1890 instead of 1891) Attorney for Nicholaus was Thomas LESLIE. The friends who signed the sworn 3 page document which was hand written by the clerk of court were Otto MORRIS and R. S. BOSTWICK. Clerk of court was William RIPPIN, document August 1, 1890. Nicholaus was noted as a farmer and laborer. Would like to hear from anybody connected to the HUBACHER, KIRK or HEITKAMP families of Jo Davies County Illinois. Rachel M Downing, gembug@hotmail.com .

COLEMAN, CORBETT, FITZGIBBON, GOGAN, HOLLAND, MAHONEY, SUMMERS posted by Scott Mahoney on Wednesday, March 29, 2000

Researching Cornelius MAHONEY (1828-1905) of Dunleith, JoDaviess County, Illinois and his wife Bridget SUMMERS FITZGIBBON (1829-1881). Cornelius was born in County Cork, Ireland, the son of Timothy and Mary (GOGAN) MAHONEY. He came to the U.S.A. in 1845 with (according to a family tradition) two brothers who later went to the Dakotas and were never heard from again (not sure if the brothers were ever in JoDaviess County). Cornelius is known to have lived in New York and Ohio before moving to Dunleith, JoDaviess County around 1855 where he lived until moving to Delaware County, Iowa around 1862. Bridget was born in the Parish of Askeaton, County Limerick, Ireland, apparently the daughter of Martin and Bridget (HOLLAND) SUMMERS. She appears to have had a stepfather by the name of Cornelius COLEMAN. Was he the same Cornelius COLEMAN who witnessed Cornelius MAHONEY's naturalization in JoDaviess County in 1855? (John CORBETT also listed as a witness.) Any information on these families appreciated, Scott Mahoney scottjm56@hotmail.com.
