ANGWIN posted by Mike Angwin on Monday, May 3, 1999

No information on JoDaviess county, but there were five Angwin children of Rev. Thomas Angwin of Newfoundland of which one could be your ancestor. One went to Pennsylvania and later Australia, hence the Austramian branch of the family. The other four I have not been able to identify or link

BALSTER, STIERMAN, STIERMANN posted by Tom Stierman on Saturday, May 8, 1999

In response to questions on the JoDaviess Co. Il Query Forum... Ferdinand's father, Theodore (aka Johann Theodore/b Sept 30, 1825), was born in Germany and came to America in 1847 with his father (Johann Christopher Stiermann/b Oct 27, 1782), mother (Magdalene Balster/b Aug 1787), and siblings (Bernardine Stiermann/b Dec 7, 1833, W. Jos. Stiermann/b Jul 14, 1828, and Maria Sibilla Stierman/b March 19, 1823). They lived in Meckinghoven, Germany. [from immigration records]. My records show that Ferdinand was born December 26, 1861(which would be more consistent with the marriage year of 1882). I also believe that Johann Theodore Stiermann died in January 1894 and that the Theodore Stierman, who died in Dubuque, IA ca. 1933, may have been Johann Theodore's son and Ferdinand's brother.

Some descendants of the above lived in the Rising Sun and Seneca areas of Crawford County, Wisconsin. Thank you for any response you might give. I have family information to share.

BELL, CARSON, CONLEY, MURPHY posted by Dorothy Cline on Saturday, May 29, 1999

I am in search of my great-aunt Maria CONLEY b: 6-23-1862, Jo Davies CO, Ill to William Winthrop Conley and Elizabeth Anna BELL. I found her in the 1880 Jo Davies Co. census married to Rosemon or Rosemond CARSON. Rosmon was born about 1857 to Robert and Eliza CARSON. Maria and Rosmon lived with Robert and Eliza. There were also two gransons mentioned in this household, William who was 11 years of age and John who was 6 months old, being born in January 1880. I assume John was the child of Maria and Rosmon. I would like to hear from any member of a CARSON family who might have connections to my great-aunt. She was in Idaho as a MURPHY in the spring of 1937. Her sister's obiturary states Cuna, Idaho, however there is not a Cuna, but a Kuna which is probably the one mentioned in the obituary. I have searched death records for Idaho and find nothing. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

SHADE, SHAY, WHEELDIN posted by Betty Brooks on Sunday, May 30, 1999

Thank you for the prompt answer on the WHEELDIN family. This is a beginning of this family for me in Jo Davies Co. My primary interest was in the wife of John Wheeldin, shown as Elizabeth "SHADE" on the marriage index. We believe that the name is actually "SHAY".I would like contact with any descendents living in the area, if possible. She is shown in the 1920 census, living in Galena. I've lost the paper copy of this census, but think there were sons or grandsons living with her. No husband. She attended bros funeral in 1922- when did she die?? Any help appreciated greatly..

BIEHL, BORSDORF, HUGHES, JOGERST, MCGURK, REID posted by Julie on Sunday, May 30, 1999

Saw your posting on Hughes... I don't have those names in my Hughes group, but can let you know there was a large Hughes family in Stephenson Co., the neighboring county. My Hughes are found in Kent and Lena which are fairly close to Galena and Stockton in JoDaviess Co. I just recently found out that a Christopher Hughes was in the Kent area about 1838... and my 2nd gr grandfather James A. Hughes by 1854. I believe that most of the Hughes in this area are related, I just haven't found everything yet. Anyhow, if your Hughes are near the border, maybe they're related to mine. James had 7 brothers and sisters..
