NIEHAUS, PALCHO posted by Cynthia Taylor on Saturday, October 9, 1999: My gggrandfather was John F. NIEHAUS b.6/5/1819 in Hanover Germany, migrated to US about 1846. He applied for US citizenship in Jo Daviess Co. IL 1846. On 5/6/1856 he married Caroline D. PALCHO b. 8/27/1829 in Mecklenburg Germany. Their marriage certificate indicates that she had been living in Galena IL at the time of their marriage. I don't know when she migrated to US. They moved to Plattville WI where he is listed as a tailor, and then to Nebraska where he was a farmer. They had 4 sons: William, Lewis, George, and ?. I can't find any previous info on either of them.

Oliver VAN VOLTENBURG b.July 1841 in Indiana, wife Minerva b. April 1831 in Iowa, son William R. b.May 1873 in Iowa and son Jacob G. b. November 1874 also in Iowa. July 1841 in Indiana, mother & father born in Indiana. Lists occupation as day laborer who owned a mortgaged home within the English Township. 2. Van Voltenburg, Minerva (wife) b. April 1831 in Indiana, mother born in Pennsylvania, father born in Maryland. 4 children born, 3 living at time of census. 3. Van Voltenburg, William R. (son) b. May 1873 in Iowa, occupation - day laborer. 4. Van Voltenburg, Jacob G. (son) b. November 1874 in Iowa, occupation - day laborer. 5. HASELTON (or Harelton), Cora (sister-in-law) b. March 1863 in Iowa - listed as single. I have not found a record of the third child as of yet, but will be happy to notify you if I do. It's possible the third child was a daughter and may have married, thus changing her name. Hope this is helpful...Ami.

BROWNELL, DUNCAN, SWEDENBORG posted by Bill Mac Kay on Saturday, October 23, 1999: Seek to know origins and eventualities of one George Washington BROWNELL of Galena, Jo Daviess Co., IL. In 1847, he married Mrs. Johanna (or Hannah) DUNCAN of Galena. At the time, he was a resident of the Falls of St. Croix. He may be a relative of Marcia BROWNELL, with whom he shares a page in the 1860 Galena, third ward, census. He is probably the father of the Marcia BROWNELL who is honored as a grammar school student in an April 1864 Galena newspaper. G.W. BROWNELL was a religious follower of Emanuel SWEDENBORG, i.e., a member of the Church of the New Jerusalem. Would be pleased to correspond & share. Thank you, Bill Mac Kay in New York City. .

BUGGEMANN, EGELHOF, HARMON, HERMAN posted by Todd Egelhof on Wednesday, October 27, 1999: Theobald EGELHOF (b 1843 Bayern) married to Caroline BUGGEMANN (This is the spelling on the marriage record. I seek her correct surname.) in St. Charles co MO 1868. Caroline died about 1877 in Jo Daviess Co IL. I seek her burial place. In 1878 Theobold remarried to Caroline HERMAN/HARMON in Lafayette Co WI and they are on the 1880 census of Jo Daviess Co.
